Kevin C. Garinger – Director of Education
We had many reasons to celebrate this past week as our students, staff and stakeholders continue to impress in our schools and communities within Horizon School Division. As positive as things appear, sometimes tragedy brings us immediately back to the purpose of why we are here. We need to celebrate the lives of those we are supporting as well as the lives of those who are providing the support. This week in Horizon has ended tragically for our school division family as one of our own support agents lost his life. On Saturday, Mr. Paul Reist, teacher at St. Brieux School and recent teacher at Muenster School, passed away suddenly. Paul was a caring, passionate and compassionate teacher who was loved by his family, his friends, his colleagues and his students. I wish to take this opportunity to express my deepest sympathies to Paul’s family and friends. Our world and the world of all who knew Paul will be changed forever with his loss. He left a wonderful legacy, one that allowed many of us to be privy to his example and his guidance. As Winnie the Pooh said, “How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” Thank you for making a difference in the lives of our students, Paul.
