THIS WEEK IN HORIZON (January 19 – 23, 2015)
Kevin C. Garinger – Director of Education
As much as I have thoroughly enjoyed my opportunity to travel to our schools, see some of our students and staff and share in the excellent work that is happening in support of our children, I need to begin this week on a somewhat somber note as our Horizon family suffered two difficult losses. First, I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to trustee Melva Desjarlais on the loss of her husband. I know the entire Horizon family joins with me as we extend our thoughts and prayers to Melva and her family at this challenging time. Melva and her husband have been long time members of the Fishing Lake First Nation community and that community was hit equally hard with the passing of Chief Allan Paquachan. I mentioned this in my last TWIH but with the wake and the funeral held this past week, I wanted to reiterate that our thoughts and prayers are with Allan’s wife, Marjorie and their entire family. Marjorie has been a bus driver for Wadena schools for over 40 years while Allan served as the Chief of the Fishing Lake First Nation for the past 31 years. Allan’s leadership and his focus on supporting the youth of Fishing Lake Band will most certainly be missed.
